다이아토닉(Diatonic)은 조표 안에 들어 있는 음을 가리킴. 조표 밖의 음을 쓰는 크로매틱(Chromatic)과 반대되는 말임.
장음계의 각 음 위에 셋온음을 쌓으면 코드 성질이 일정한 순서로 나옴.
장조의 순서는 장–단–단–장–장–단–감, 로마 숫자로는 I–ii–iii–IV–V–vi–vii°임.
